Praying Hand Charm with Cross – Orans
$39.95
Polished 925 sterling silver praying hands with oxidized recesses, a threaded bead core and a small Latin cross hanging below, for everyday wear on snake chain charm bracelets.
More designs:
- The threaded core slides on, so you choose its position each time you close the clasp.
- At 0.74 in tall it stays a quiet detail beside larger beads instead of dominating the stack.
- Oxidized grooves between the fingers keep the hands readable even when the polish picks up fingerprints.
- The cross swings on a small jump ring, so it can tap a neighboring dangle and needs a gap.

Our Take
From arm’s length what you see is a bright silhouette of two hands; the small cross below it only resolves up close, along with the darkened grooves between the fingers. It is small, 0.74 in top to bottom, so it will not carry a bracelet on its own. After a morning at a desk ours had turned slightly inward and was showing its stamped back edge. We kept nudging it upright, which is the honest cost of a bead that slides.

Description
A Threaded Silver Bead That Carries Its Cross Below the Chain
This Hand Charm with Cross is built as a bead rather than a clip. The channel runs straight through the beaded cuff below the praying hands, so the piece slides onto a bracelet instead of gripping it. A small Latin cross hangs underneath from a soldered jump ring, free to swing.
What happens when the hands rotate under the chain
A bead charm has no fixed angle. On a snake chain the hands turn as the wrist moves, and ours spent part of the day facing slightly inward, with the flat stamped edge showing instead of the fingers. The hanging cross corrects some of that by itself, since it weights the lowest point and pulls the front face back toward you. Movement resets it within a few steps. The tick against a neighboring bead is faint, not a jingle. In practice the piece reads best with a neighbor on each side to limit the swing, and two beads with snug holes will hold it close to upright through a working day. Left alone at the end of an open chain, it drifts.
Threading is the one thing to check before buying. It has to pass over the end of the bracelet, so the clasp comes open and the charm travels down the chain. Anything closed at both ends blocks that: a soldered link chain, a bangle with fixed end caps, a cord with a sealed knot. For those, a clip charm or a lobster clasp dangle is the right purchase, not this one. On a standard snake chain the fit is unremarkable in the good sense, no force needed and no rattle once the neighbors are set. Total height is 0.74 in (1.89 cm) to the tip of the cross, and it covers 0.37 in (0.95 cm) of chain.
Where the oxidized recesses will brighten first
- The raised knuckles come up first, since fingertips reach them every time the clasp is closed.
- Next the beaded cuff, where contact with neighboring charms slowly polishes the darkened antiqued finish away.
- The flat reverse around the 925 mark, rubbed smooth by the wrist and a shirt cuff.
- Last the cross itself, exposed on both faces but light enough that it rarely presses on anything.
FAQ
Will it stay where I put it on the bracelet?
No. It threads on like a bead and slides, so it moves with the chain unless charms on either side box it in. Position it between two snug beads if you want it to stay put.
The shading between the fingers looks like tarnish.
That contrast sits in the recesses by design, which keeps the fingers legible. Real tarnish shows as a dull film across the whole surface, including the polished high points, and lifts with a cloth. Skip dip cleaners, they strip the darkened grooves too.
Is sterling worth it over plated brass on a piece this small?
On a charm that gets handled at the clasp, yes: plating wears through at the raised knuckles first and cannot be restored at home. Sterling only tarnishes, which is reversible. The trade-off is that sterling needs a wipe now and then.
Does the hanging cross catch on knitwear?
It can. The jump ring and the cross hang below the chain line, which is exactly where a loose sweater knit passes. Turning the bracelet so the charm sits toward the inside of the wrist helps under long sleeves.
